The important point to note here is that if you don’t pay your taxes, you will get a lien against you, that is for sure and IRS will file a tax lien. This will be against your property to the amount of tax that you have to pay. The purpose of Tax lien is to increase the amount in the from of penalty that you have to pay. All this effects your credit and hinder the process of obtaining any more credit.
The first thing you have to do is to arrange the payment that is required to pay to the IRS. There are different payment options, you have to contact the IRS and discuss the payment option. There is downloadable form found at the website of www.irs.gov , you have to download form 656 for this purpose. There are many payment options which you can set from the monthly payments with the IRS to pay the tax lien. Once the offer you have given to the IRS has been accepted then there is a chance that your unpaid tax lien is removed before you pay the full amount.
If you do not agree with the monthly payment then you can file the case to credit reporting agencies .You can file your dispute electronically on the websites of Equifax or Trans Union by mailing a dispute to the agencies.
