When i scan, light coloured lines and dark lines appear on photo. How do i get the scan without the lines? (tried moving the photo around - makes no difference)

Well, you should check it out that all the drivers are installed properly. Sometimes we don't have drivers so the device not works properly.
You should re-install the drivers properly.
