Hi There, 1.Turn your freezer off and empty contents into ice chests, cardboard boxes or wherever you can keep things frozen for an hour or so. Take out any removable baskets or shelves. 2.Place a thick towel, folded to fit, in the bottom of the freezer. 3.Put a cookie sheet (or 2 side by side, if there’s room) on top of the towel. The goal is to cover as much of the towel as possible to catch drips of water. Note: This is an optional step, based on need. But if you need to do it, then do it now! 4.Cut a large plastic garbage bag about 18” up from the bottom. Lay a towel inside and place the bag over the bottom of the freezer door. Pull it up (making a slit to go around the hinge) until the bag is neatly resting on the floor and tape at each side to hold in place. This will catch any water seepage that may occur from frost inside the door melting during the defrosting process. If you know your freezer door doesn’t leak, or if your freezer is outside and you don’t care, skip this step. My big upright, however, will leave about a quart of water puddled on my laminate floor if I don’t put a diaper on it! 5.Starting on the bottom shelf (yes, the bottom), gently use the plastic pancake turner to scoop any frost that is loose onto another cookie sheet. DO NOT force the frost or use anything but a plastic pancake turner (no metal, no knives!). Dump the frost in the sink, as needed. 6.Working your way up shelf by shelf, clean the loose frost from the top and bottom of each shelf. When there’s no more loose frost to remove, take a short break. Return in 5 minutes or so and continue until all the ice is removed. 7.When the freezer is free of all frost, wipe the inside with a wet cloth and dry thoroughly with a clean towel. 8.Return food to freezer, turn it back on and close the door. 9.If you’ve attached a plastic bag to the bottom of the door, leave therefor a while to catch the rest of the water - just make sure it isn’t bunched up, creating an air leak in the door seal. Remove after about an hour. Hope it helps
