   Juliana Luisa Margulies is an American actress of the present times, born in Spring Valley (near New York City) and was the youngest of three daughters of a former dancer in American Ballet and an advertising writer. Until beginning high school in New Hampshire at the age of 14, she lived several years with her family in Paris and in England. She went on to obtain a B.A. degree in liberal arts from Sarah Lawrence College, where she participated in several plays on campus. Until her first role in Out for Justice in year 1991, she used to work as a waitress. It took more than a year to find another role and during that time she managed to support herself from several regional theater productions and national TV advertisements. She got recognition after working in her presently continuing role as Nurse Carol Hathaway on the NBC medical drama ER (Emergency Room), for which she won an Emmy Award. As far as her religion is concerned, her parents are Jewish and were descended from immigrants from Austria, Hungary and Romania. The family used to live in Israel before Margulies was born and before moving back to the Upper West Side of New York City.
