Will you please help me with this question we discussed in class but I missed from being sick:
With respect to the federal Constitution, the Jeffersonian Republicans are usually characterized as strict constructionists who were opposed to the broad constructionism of the Federalists. To what extent was this characterization of the two parties accurate during the presidencies of Jefferson and Madison?

In order to distinguish the difference of views between the Jeffersonian Republicans and the Federalists, the early 1800’s history provided clear evidence. These two parties were totally different in thought, design, and status of people involved. The Federalists were a strong and wealthy party. Mostly lawyers, big businessmen, bankers, merchants, and professionals made up the Federalist Party. During the presidencies of Jefferson and Madison, several issues emerged showing the strong opinions of the two groups. The Jeffersonian Republicans were in favor of a strong constitution, while the Federalists wanted broad constructionism. Thomas Jefferson was the leader of the Jeffersonian Republicans. They disagreed with the Federalists on many issue. Four of these issues were their idea of who should rule the government, the power of the government, national debt, and banks. The Federalists favored that rule should be by the "best" people, but, the Republicans disagreed with them. The Federalists wanted a strong central government while the Republicans favored many state powers. The Federalists considered the national debt as a blessing while the Republicans not supported it. Finally, the Federalists supported a strong central bank and the Republicans favored state banks only.
