Is skunk odor harmful to the lungs or throat?

I'm a quadriplegic that is on a ventilator at night, only. The other night there was skunk smell from outside that permeated the house. Because the ventilator pumps room air directly into my lungs, I'm a little concerned, since it's not like going through the nose with natural filtration.
