Selective breeding is chosen by majority of all animals in the hopes to carry on the best genes giving the offspring the best chances of survival. Mating with animals that are considered week or have a disability will not bring forth strong offspring. Remember in the animal kingdom only the strong survive, and the weak and disabled fall prey to predators in the surroundings, which is a big part of the food chain. The weak don't get to mate and fall victim to predators.
