Google Farmer update aimed to provide quality search results to the users and so gave a big hit to too many sites, small as well as bigger ones. Since, bigger sites were doing some fishy work, so they got the big hit in fact, for instance, the panda update almost wiped out Mahalo.com. There were some big sites that got the hit, but immediately improved the quality and sustained back, like Ezinearticles. Com which did too much of effort in removing low quality content, they also reviewed their quality guidelines and now it’s not that easy to get published on Ezine, like it used to be a few months back.

Well, the overall impact of Panda update on bigger sites is good. The sites that improved, survived and those who couldn’t have been sent to scrap!

Initially I thought that it is only questions and answers sites that got penalty from Google, but later I found that too many Ecommerce sites also went down, then real estate portals and discussions boards. So it was not just particular niches, but a particular type of content, which Google claims to be thin content.

Google is trying to provide users with quality contant and hence it penalized sites that are copying content and creating content farms.
