I have Onkyo TX-SR605

I have Onkyo TX-SR605 with Mitsbushi Projector (HC7000) & Motoralo PVR. When I try to watch cable, the image continues to cut in and out. A friend had a quick look the other day and suggested the 'hand shake' was not occuring. I've email Onkyo to see if my receiver requires a firmware update as they could not check the serial number for Canadian residents. Any thoughts?
