I don't want to drop out and get my GED. Are there any programs or nontraditional schools that would be any better?....I'm currently in 10th grade.

I don't really know where to start when it comes to explaining my "situation". Compulsory schooling is almost intolerable for me. I've read up quite a bit on the unschooling wave and think that's a nice direction to head into; but my parents would never allow that. There is a sudbury school within an hour of where I live, but I don't know if the tuition is worth it. I'm an intelligent kid, but I don't think the traditional method is bringing out anything in me. It's dull, repetitive, forceful, and mechanical -- it doesn't work for me. It may work for some students, but not for me. Since everything I'm required to pass and/or study is entirely uninteresting to me, I don't try my best, I don't do my best, nor do I reach my full potential, or genuine learning. I could genuinely learn if the interest and the help needed was there. There's so much I think is generally wrong with schools. Grades either push down students making them feel inadequate and handicapped; or they blow up the students ego and make them think they are an all-knowing superhuman creature. Learning is not solely about memorizing things -- in some cases that may be it -- but schools focus almost entirely on memorization. Most kids do not know how to THINK or make connections. Don't the statistics startle anybody else? American children scoring THE lowest amongst other industrial nations, for decades now? One can argue it's the budget, but how come Japan for example spends half the money U.S. spends per student, yet look at the achievements made there by people...does that not show definite efficiency in their schools? American schools are masterfully inefficient in education and masterfully efficient in the mass control of people...
School mentally and physically exhausts me. The average school day is nearly as long as an adult's workday. I stress myself to sickness to complete assignments and reach respectable grades...homework is also a struggle for me.
