   Hi There, An old fashioned fuse and these days a microcircuits breaker or MCB is designedto stop too much current flowing through a circuit. A fuse was a piece of wire thatthey melted when it got too hot. An MCB trips out when too much current flows but does the same job as a fuse. Neither detect where that high current is flowing it could be through a faulty heating element or it could be through you stopping your heart. It would be perfectly possible to electrocute yourself withoutblowing a fuse or tripping an MCB. The main trip that is going in this case is almost certainly a so called RCD or residual current device. When these were called ELCBs or earth leakage contact breakers it was easier to understand their function. Essentially they compare the current flowing put through the positive and the current flowing back through the neutral. (to those who know this is a simplification yes it is to help it to be compherensible to the non technical!) if the RCD detects a difference between those it means some current is flowing to earth through you or some poor insulation in the circuit. It trips so that hopefully if that current is flowing through you your heart will not stop. RCDs are therefore designed to trip in response to small earth leaks typically 30thousanths of an amp and within 30 thousandths of a second of detecting it. So this is not tripping because the current flowis high but because there is a fault. I suspect that the heati g element or themptor in your drier has a developing short circuit to earth. It might be repairable but possibly it could cost more than a new one. Do not be tempted to do a quick fix by changing g the mcb rating or altering the earth connection
