   Hi, Disconnecting the battery is not a bad idea considering, as you said, that would be the first thing to try. If that doesn't work, this may seem weird, but move the steering wheel back and forth as you try to remove the key from the ignition. Also, make sure that the ignition is in the right position to remove the key. If this does not work, then there is a spring clip in the ignition that allows the steering wheel to move. Normally, when put into park, that spring clip locks into place and holds the steering also releasing the key at the same time. It would be a bit of a fix to try that on your own, so at that point I would recommend a mechanic to service the vehicle.
