   Hi, Howard Miller does not build clocks, they build cases and install movements from other sources, in your case it was Hermle. The Hermle 340-020 movement utilizes a floating balance escapement as opposed to a pendulum. The floating balance is a rather fragile unit. As it gets old, worn, and dirty it might need a little help to get going. To do this you need to open the back of the case, upon doing so you will see the floating balance in all its glory. All you need do is to gently give the balance wheel a little spin, about a quarter turn should do it. If the clock fails to run it needs cleaning and adjustment. Quite frankly if that proved to be the case I would simply replace the movement, you would not only save money but you would end up with a better clock than when it was new. YOU WOULD NOT BE DIMINISHING THE VALUE OF YOUR CLOCK. I suspect you could do the work involved yourself and save even more money. If you wish I can provide you with sources from which you can acquire a replacement. As to the possible worth of the clock.
