I have a question related to taxes. I have to travel to the United States and there is a chance that I might possibly be staying in the state of Louisiana. Keeping this in view I would like to know about the tax title and license for automobile in Louisiana.

On purchasing a new vehicle through a dealer in Louisiana, you will be provided with an assigned certificate of origin, odometer statement, notarized invoice and line instrument, when applicable. Generally, a dealer collects the applicable sales tax and all title and license fees and will submit these moneys along with the proper supporting documents at the Office of Motor Vehicles for the license and title issuance. You will be issued a temporary 90-day cardboard plate from the dealer which must be clearly visible from the rear of your vehicle. Sales tax must be remitted to the Office of Motor Vehicles by the 20th of the month in the very next month in which the vehicle is purchased. However, if all fees area not remitted timely, penalty and interest will be charged. On purchasing a used vehicle, the certificate of title must be properly executed by the owner or dealer before a notary. The seller is lawfully required delivering a properly assigned certificate of title to the buyer at the time of sale or delivery of the vehicle. The new owner must apply for title in his name upon purchase of vehicle. Usually, the LA State Tax is 4% and Title Fee is $18.50. The plate fee depends upon the value of the vehicle. For example a car of worth $10,000 has $20 as the plate fee.
