1) -ensuring that you dont assume a girl with baby is playing a nurse-girls can be doctors!!!
-a child from mixed race background does not mean they do not speak english!
-support children in being independent-EVERY child!
2) -Do not talk about children outside of work or to anyone not related to the care of the child.
-have a locked cupboard to store info.
3) Look up the UN Convention on the Rights of The child (see Bernard Van Leer Foundation online)
-give child choices so they can make own decision
-call them by their name-do not shorten or change proununciation without their permission!
4) -Have images around room showing celebrations and images of variety of faiths not just one particular culture!
-Praise all celebrations-new born baby, using toilet on their own, putting own coat on!
5) Having regular obs so that you notice if child is acting differently all of a sudden!
-staff must have up to date safe guarding training.
6) Positive body language- show your interested-get down to their level, eye contact etc.
-spend time with the child playing wth them not just watching or directing them.
7) Key person system so an adult will know the child well rather than learning about whole group!
-Go by child's interest not adults!
