First of all Plan your approach. Now see the plant from ten to twenty feet away and from various angles, endeavoring to visualize the favorite shape and size. You can keep it low, wide (almost 8 to ten feet) or anything according to your landscape needs. If any of plants will be within front of it, the willow should be taller. If there are taller plants to the rear, keep the willow onto the low side. If you possess the space for it, the dappled willow can be a dramatic focal degree when it is large. It is better to maintain its natural, slightly rounded, upright shape. In moment, the new growth will lie between branches within its natural form. Eliminate the branches that are dead, wrecked or crossing other branches of the tree. Go to the direction of the offending branch. Cut at an angle approaching the related branch (about 1/8 of an inch). You may need loppers for thicker branches closer towards the base. Remove a number of stems completely from the interior of the plant for opening up the plant and allow nice air circulation. This is necessary whether the plant is very dense or thick. Cut these stems leading to the base of the plant. Now remove the stems remained to match your plan. Use the cutting blade at a 45-degree angle to the stem for water to shed away from the stem. Keep the upper branches shorter as compared to the lower ones for maintaining the favorite shape.
