How do I lock the bolt open on the Remington 740 30-06

   Hi First make a tool from a piece of broom handle about 3-3/4" long by drilling a 3/8" hole the full length and then with a saw (band saw works good) cut a full length slot as wide as the drilled hole. Looking at one end you now see a U shape. Now remove the forearm on the 740 by removing the bolt at the end of the forearm. Then pull back the bolt and slip the U shaped wooden tool over the gas tube. Release the bolt and it will stay open.
