How do I fix holder slot problem on Nikon LS8000 scanner?

Receiving this message: Make sure the holder slot cover is completely open. It is completely open. Consequently, film holder transport does not work. Thus, all functionality at a halt. I have reinstalled the scanner twice. No improvement.
