In 1975 Gates and his childhood fried Paul Allen left Harvard for starting his business. And they pair and planned to develop software for the newly emerging personal computer market. Bill Gate's company Microsoft became famous for their computer operating systems. For instance Bill Gates talked IBM into letting Microsoft retain the licensing rights to MS-DOS an operating system that IBM needed for their new personal computer. Gates proceeded to make a fortune from the licensing of MS-DOS and finally on November 10, 1983, in New York City at the Plaza Hotel, Microsoft Corporation formally announced Microsoft Windows, a next-generation operating system.

First of all, your facts are incorrect.

Paul Allen did not attend Harvard. He dropped out of Washington State and was working for Honeywell in Boston when he came to Gates, a friend of his from high school, with his idea.

The business they started was first called Micro-Soft. The name wasn't altered until after they won the first big contract from IBM.

Allen is not 2nd in command and hasn't been for a long time.

The reason Gates is seen as the face of Microsoft is that Allen, after being diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease in 1983, slowly reduced his role in the company. In fact, he never returned to work. He resigned from the board of directors in 2000. He now acts strictly as a consultant. In the meantime, Allen has been investing in a slew of other ventures. Anyone familiar with sports knows who he is through his ownership of the Seahawks and the Trail Blazers. He also runs a venture capital firm called Vulcan, through which he is involved in several industries. He is also a noted philanthropist.

Gates has a lot more stock in Microsoft for 2 main reasons. First, Allen sold 69 million shares to help fund his other enterprises. Second, Gates had been awarded more shares over the earlier years (he no longer receives stock awards) through his continued (until this past month) leadership of the company. While he turned over the day-to-day operations to Steve Ballmer years ago, Gates remained an active participant in guiding new product development and overall direction of the company. Why don't you hear more about Allen? Because that's exactly the way he wants it.
