Question:

How can I get Trim and Tilt on my NMEA2000 display from my Yanmar engine?

My engine has trim/tilt built in, but the gauge does not work on my Garmin Chartplotter display. Garmin have told me this can't be done. This is annoying, because the gauge shows on the chartplotter display and can not be switched off, but it will not show the correct information, even though all the other NMEA2000 info works???? Is there anything I can do to fix this?

This is a problem caused by NMEA2000 tilt/trim being combined in the same PGN, (sentence), as the main engine data. There is a solution to this already. A company called Tinley Electronics in the UK, www.tinleyelectronics.com produce an interface that superimposes tilt/trim data onto the existing NMEA2000 PGN's, fooling the Garmin display to think the data is in fact coming from the engine. The instruction manual is available for download here: www.tinleyelectronics.com/documents/CAN2000EngineGatewayV1-01.pdf I belive that it will work with any engine or NMEA2000 combination.
