Mr. Sony first invested in the Sony Playstation in 1991; it took three years and on December 03, 1994 playstation went on sale in Japan.
Sean Dromgoole, games analyst at Some Research, agrees that right from the console's grey beginnings, its design and functionality opened up the appeal of gaming.
"It took gaming consoles from being toys to being grown-up bits of kit, gadgets, functional consumer items like hi-fis were. "But it did it with style. It managed to keep it technologically interesting."
Nintendo and its Super NES console, Sega and Atari dominated the consoles game market for years until Mr. Sony said enough is enough and introduced Sony PS in 1994 and by year 1996 it had sold more than 3.4 million consoles.
By the following year PlayStation had gone on sale worldwide and by January 1996, global sales hit 3.4 million. Sony released the PlayStation 2 in March 2004 and sold another 70 million that’s 70 with six zeros PS2s.
As the kids playing those early console grow up along with it they grew the market of the entire console industry. The games and consoles moved on from single players to double and from double to multiple. Initial play was completely via desktop and now it is multiplayer universe on the internet. You can play with people from all walks and regions of the world without stepping a foot out of your bedroom. The fast growing market invited competition from Microsoft xbox and Nitendos Gamecube.
Since its launch, PlayStation has dominated the console market over Nintendo's GameCube and Microsoft's Xbox. But the next ten years are going to be won by the game developer who has causal gaming in mind. More and more people are playing games online and games that require little skills and can be played in groups are going to take the market by storm. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all intend to launch their next generation consoles next year.
