When I was in Highschool, a teacher told my class that the word reneging was used when a slave owner would sell a slave, the slave would run home, and then the owner would resell that slave again.  I had recently brought this up in one of my college courses and my teacher called me a liar in front of the whole class.  I need some proof that this word was used in this context to prove it to my teacher because every time I am in class, the teacher brings it up.  Please help!

Renege entails to proceed back on one's word. Its source designated days back to 1540-50. In other phrases we can state that Renege entails one fails to fulfill a pledge or obligation; renegue on; proceed back on. In some causes we may discovered its meanings like this, to go incorrect to convey out a pledge or commitment: reneged on the agreement at the last minute.
I believe I have to acquiesce with your school professor. I have not ever learned the period "reneging" utilised with consider to slavery.
Such a perform would be effectively unrealistic anyway. Slaves were rather precious, and one-by-one slaves were effortlessly identifiable. Also, south groups were generally somewhat small. If somebody endeavoured to deal the identical slave two times, persons would apprehend on very fast. The only way it could be finished is if the group went from village to town. This intended a slave would have to risk his life seeking to get away from odd territory. With a scheme in location to arrest got away slaves, it would be exceedingly improbable that somebody could get away effectively with any regularity. I am furthermore not certain what inducement a slave would have to risk his life like that for somebody else.
