Best Gauge to use for a helix piercing would be 16. Also, go to a professional studio or shop where they use hollow needles that remove the cartilage and flesh as not to tear it. If they use a "gun" to pierce it, run away immediately. Normally for high quality IMPLANT grade jewelry, plus the procedure, you would be looking at around $70, if it's cheaper than this, be aware that they could be using fake or cheap jewelry. When you get pierced, do NOT TOUCH the piercing for several weeks. It does not need to be touched at all. You can clean it 1-2 times a day by applying a non-iodized salt water solution to a q-tip and removing any discharge from the area. Always handle it with clean hands before cleaning around the piercing. Do not use soap, makeup or any perfume products around the piercing. Also, do not remove the piercing as even 1 day could make it close up again. If you take the proper precautions, you won't get an infection.
