Heard a snap and a light flash with an orb around it. What is it?

My hubby and I were in the kitchen when a loud flash of light the size of a silver dollar appeared beside us three feet above the floor. Freaked him out because he has heard my stories of mine of unusual things that happen to me. He has never experienced anything like it before. What was it?
