Hi, general, chirping about once a minute indicates a battery that needs to be replaced. Also, as a rule of thumb, change all the batteries once a year. I've had a lot of questions over the past few months about chirping smoke detectors, and at least one turned out not to be a smoke detector at all -- it was a carbon monoxide detector with a low battery and a similar warning signal that fooled the homeowners. That's one more thing for you to check. Vacuuming smoke detectors is a good idea, too. But this is to prevent false alarms, not the chirping you descibe. If you can tell me the make and model of the detectors in your house, I may be able to tell you more. I hope this helps
