Older people often lack social networks and opportunities for exercise, and having a cat on their laps or a dog walking next to them can boost their health and happiness. Studies show that pets not only foster feelings of love and security but can also lower a person's blood pressure, heart rate and stress level. For seniors, these small benefits can add up to an impressive advantage. A recent Canadian study of nearly 1,000 adults over the age of 65 found that pet owners were physically healthier and less likely to decline in health over the next year. And apparently it does not matter if a person owns a cat or dog, the rewards are the same. So, before you go to an animal shelter or a pet store, think about what you want from a pet and what your pet will need from you. So consider the cost of the pet and also add the cost of food, litter, leashes, chew toys and vet bills. Another thing for your consideration is space that how much room do you have for your pet living, while time factor is also crucial, that do you have the time to maintain a clean, well-fed and well-exercised pet and are you physically capable to take on extra work such as stooping, lifting and cleaning. If you think that you can manage all these factors then a Pet is a good choice for you, as it will give you many benefits on the same time.
