Getting married in Egypt as an immigrant has become complex, because the door has been closed for foreign marriages. If you are planning to get married in Egypt, make sure you understand the laws and marriage regulations. You should contact with an attorney or hire the services of a notary because the latest news from the U.S. Consular Section of the Embassy is that the Consular Section is not giving the affidavit demanded by the Egyptian Government to authorize the marriage of a foreigner in Egypt. Even in case if you have documents authenticated by the United States department, then there is no assurance that the documents will be accepted by the Egyptian government. It is compulsory to get a notarized, clear statement that you are free to marry. Since the Consular Service is not offering this form any longer, if you are an American citizen, you should hire the services of an attorney or the services of a notary. You will also be inquired to state whether you are Muslim, Christian, or Jewish. This document then has to be attested from Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In order to get married as an Egyptian citizen should learn about Egyptian family law and regulations. For this you will need an evidence of citizenship or a valid passport. You must have two male witnesses who have legal papers for their identifications papers, with you when you apply for the marriage license. But no residency prove is required. A marriage in Egypt is legal only if it is a civil ceremony held at a local marriage court.
