Question:

Want to increase the tire size of 2001 Dodge Ram 1500.

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 with 245 tires that look small in the wheel wells. I want to go for 265 without hurting my truck. I have asked many friends for the suggestion but no one has any experience in this. I have tried some dealers but they also did not make me satisfy over this thing. I am looking for some expert opinion on this here. Do you have any experience like this? Can someone tell give me a good suggestion over this? I would be really thankful to for this.

Increasing the width of a tyre in your case going from 245 to 265 doesn't hurt the machine. Increased width means more rubber on the road and more traction. keep in mind that you will have a slight difference in your car consumption as the 265 size tyre will be little heavier then the older ones. According to the above explanation the guy is highlighting that there will be 4% change in the speedometer. Speedometer change occur when you increase or decrease the Diameter of the tyre in your case you are only changing the width of it.

To keep the consumption of the car low i suggest you go for 265/70R16 decrease the size of the profile on the tyre which will equalize the weight of the overall tyre excetly the same as your previous if its 245/75R16.

Hello there,

I need to know what all the numbers are. It should read 245/70R16 or 245/75R16. You should be able to go up to the 265/70R16 but realize that the Speed meter will change about 4%.

When your speed meter reads 60 MPH your really going around 62.5 MPH. I changed my 2003 Silverado from 235/75R16 to 255/70R16 and had the dealer adjust the speed meter on the computer. I am getting ready to go with a 265/70R16 tire myself. You can also place ask some of the best tire dealers online for this help here. Hope this would help you.
