How are you?
I'm creating price lists for work so it needs to be accurate- if up to the minute doesnt exist- no sweat, just the more recent the better and hopefully 2 tenths of a dollar rounded b/c thats how I input it. Also if I can cut and paste that would be such a great time saver for me.

Economy and the plans to fix it.

Is anyone else sick of all the rich hight top executives getting bailed out and very little money if any at all coming to those who are truly struggling. If the Government took only 1,000,000,000 billion dollars and dispursed that to the millions of civilians living in this Country that would restimulate the economy and help the banks bail out. Where is our Government in times of need? They have truly shown that there is still prejudice in the country by your salary bracket and if your are not the insurance companies, the banks, the financial institutions, car makers or other evil greedy conglomerate pigs you don't count and don't matter. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer and if you don't have a name or money you don't get very far. You can buy your career. There are some who are fortunate enough to make something of themselves who have come from nothing. But coming from a place of nothing is subjective. Your nothing might be everything to me. How disgusting it is to see people riding around in 64 foot yatchs and living and million dollar mansions knowing they have 5 to 10 homes all over the world or that they think nothing of spending 1,000 dollars on shirt, shoes or dress. Looking at the Kentucky Derby, Nascar, NBA, or any sports field. How is that my sister who has 2 masters in education makes in a year what Paris Hilton spends a month on her home. I don't care how you got there and trust me the majority has lied cheated and manipulated or created the same boys club or girls hater club to keep those who might be successful or talented or have honesty or who have character and integrity to keep them down. I see with the 12 year olds and I see in politics, the arts, the corporate world and globally. The world is run by greed and there is very little community effort amongst those of the elite. It's the little people who fight and stand together to make a difference. Give me a 1,000,000,000 or the 500,000,000 the goverment plans to hand to the banks to give more million dollar bonus' too and I garuantee I can fix the economy and then some. You won't see that happen though because the rich have competition and will not be able to keep out the those who are not elite. Or here's an idea stop raising the prices of homes and cars or insurance. You know what, the banks and the car industries should belly up for robbing the poor. Think of this if you took all the money you handed over for the insurance you fork over you would save money. Unfortunately the hospitals and pharmecutical companies aslo rob you blind so for people with terminal diseases who need to meds to prolong their lives or even just to live don't even get the meds paid for. One last thing think about you decides your fate when a doctor or hospital says sorry but your insurance company doesn't cover this or hey you don't have insurance try medicaid or medicare which by the way doesn't cover everything either. But in order to any aid from the government you need to be so dirt poor and not make any money at all so why bother.

Social Work and Law

QUESTION: I'm very interested in social work particularly family and child welfare,but open to any field in social work. I am also very interested in law and would like more details on how to use both and in what field of law I should go into. I'm open to anything I just don't want to limit myself and thought w/both a BS or BA in Social Work and a JD in law I would have more options and an opportunity to give back to those in need. Any suggestions on what field I should go into to practice both law and social work?

   Hello, Jessica. Here we go:

   You might be interested in a Dual Social Work and Law Degree Program offered by naby universities. Many of the problems of social injustice may be effectively addressed through interdisciplinary efforts, particularly cooperative activities between the professions of law and social work. Increasingly, social workers have been enrolling in law schools to add to their knowledge and competence, and lawyers have been expanding their interests and activities in the social service field.

   The Dual Degree program and a University's School of Law makes it possible for full-time students to pursue an integrated program of studies and receive the M.S.S.A. and J.D. degrees. This program allows completion of both degrees within four years rather than the normal five years.

   Dual Degree students develop an understanding of the methods, language, knowledge base, research, and ethics of law and social work. Students prepare for careers in public interest or family law, administration, supervision or direct provision of services, public policy, and individual and family practice.

   Students have the option of beginning their studies at either the School of Law or MSASS. The first-year course of study is completed at the school of the student's choice. The second year is spent completing the first year of study at the cooperative school. During the third and fourth years, the required courses in each discipline and fieldwork component are completed.

   The School of Law allows 12 hours of credit for selected MSASS courses to be credited toward the J.D. degree. MSASS allows 12 hours of credit for selected law courses at the School of Law to be credited toward the M.S.S.A. degree.

   To fulfill the requirements for the M.S.S.A./J.D., the following must be completed:

79 hours of academic credit at the School of Law
40 hours of academic credit and 15 hours of field credit at MSASS.

    Although not required, applicants are encouraged to apply to both schools simultaneously, since students who apply to the second school during the first year of study will not be assured acceptance into the dual degree program. To be considered a dual degree student and receive the benefits of cross-credit allowance, a student must follow a curriculum that pursues both degrees simultaneously and receive a C grade or better to receive cross-credit for the courses.

   Applicants must comply with the application procedures, requirements, and deadlines for each school. In addition to the LSAT requirement for the School of Law, MSASS requires a Miller's Analogies Test or GRE score only for applicants whose grade point averages are below 2.7 on a 4.0 scale.

   Each student is required to complete four semesters of field education. The first two semesters are completed during the first year in the MSASS program. The advanced placement is completed during the third or fourth year of the program. For the advanced placement, efforts are made to place the student in a human service setting embracing problem-solving processes with legal implications.

How to present evidence of neglect

I am having a hard time finding a chat room that deals with this specific question: I am involved with a children's shelter in Mexico and we are concerned that the children are not receiving adequate care by the current shelter director, we are preparing a document of evidence to send the DIF (Mexican social workers) and want to present it in a clear and professional manner. Could you tell me if there is a particular format for presenting evidence of this nature, and where I might read more about how to explain who people are and why the instances of abuse were recorded?

negelect of someone in their 80s

I am concerned about well being of my late grandfathers wife who lives in US. My grandfather passed away in 2003, however at the time my father was living in the flat above and she was still mobile. Unfortunately my father passed away in 2004 and soon after a couple approached my grandfathers wife and asked her to move in. She lives in 6 bedroom house split over two floors.She kept refusing for couple of years but they they kept asking and soon after moved in.I have recently visited (I do not live in US)and was not happy with what I have witnessed...they would not leave us alone at all, the blinds are always down...it is very dark in the house...they have changed locks on flat on the first floor where they live and the basement where my grandfather and her kept their valuables...they encouraged her to by furniture she does not need so they can use it, they sold her a dog,keep telling her she should not be going out or see people because she is always complaining...and it is not fun being aroud her.They told her she is hard work.
She has lost lot of weight and looks very pale and weak. She did not talk much, but just before I left as I kissed her she whispered and asked me when will I visit again?They told me she has Parkinson but I do not think she does, there are no symptoms. But they are giving her all sorts of medication that makes her sleep constantly. She was very healthy and mobile, she was driving 3-4 years ago.I do not think they are taking good care of her. I am not sure waht I can do as I am the only relative but I do not live in US. Also I do not want to make things worse for her...I want to help her!!! What do you suggest I do?Thanks for you time

Social Work in LA

Hi- I just moved from Charlottesville, Virginia to West Hollywood CA. I applied to a children's social work position through the LA County Dept of Children and Families. I called around to make sure that there were positions open close to where I live given LA's sprawling nature....BUT no one could tell me for certain...I do not want to go through this tedious process (which they said could be up to 8 weeks) just to find there are no positions near where I live. Can anyone tell me more about the process and what to expect...apparently my application has been moved on to the 'analyst' stage. When can I expect an interview? What will my caseload be like? Does LA County work with local college/universities through Masters programs? I know this is a bit rambling but any information regarding the LA County Dept of Fam and Children would be helpful!

Hi, I am putting the finishing touches on a crime story who's villain kills a US Congressman because he blames him for policy changes that cut government funding he relied upon to care for his aging mother. Thanks, in advance for your help. My questions are: 1) do you know of any major policy changes that have been enacted or up for debate that would impact poor families caring for an elderly person, or that have cut government spending in programs such as medicaid for elderly long term care. And 2) how do extremely poor families usually pay for medication/hospital stays/and general care for elderly homebound patients. Thanks, again.

caseworker?

okay, im intrested in being a caseworker specializing in helping kids. im still unsure as to what that would put me doing specifically. Is there anyway that would maybe put me in court for the childs benefit or working hands on with them? thats what I would like to do but im just completly connfused.
