In terms of a Myers-Briggs personality type I seem to be an INFJ or INTJ, which are supposedly very common in the logistics and transportation field. I am a detail oriented person who likes structure and planning and enjoys working with people one-on-one more than trying to attend to multiple people all at once. In other words, I prefer depth rather than breadth in my customer interactions and prefer to do a task thoroughly. Furthermore, I have avid interests in international travel and foreign language and have studied abroad in Mexico and am conversant in Spanish. Do I fit a logistics career?

Futhermore, how would I begin a career in international logistics given that I have no experience in that area? How would I find a company that is willing to train an inexperienced candidate and still pay a liveable salary?

Thank you very much for your time and look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

I have been in IT since 4+ years. But I feel i"m not cut to be a programmer. Even after all my sincere efforts it simply doesnt interest me and hence I"m not able to achieve that excellence of performance. I wish to change but dont know how. Everyone around say that I"m fit for an MBA and shud go for it but doing a full time course doesnt seems to be feasible now, after 6 months of marriage. I stay with my in-laws. Currently i"m searching job in the same city. But somehow things are getting delayed inspite I clear round esp technically ones which are most challenging for me as I dislike them. I dont know what to do as the gap is gonna ruin my career. I cant decide if this is a good time to switch or struggle further in the same direction. Also I have been more into a techno-functional role hence find it difficult to fit into core technical jobs which are all thats available in market. Please suggest me how to proceed further asap.

How I can change my Career or plan any event in advance?

Hi Jeroen,
I am currently working as a corporate travel agent with a pretty good company. I do enjoy my job, but lately have been bored and am thinking more and more about making a career change.
I want to plan events and parties. I have done this before--personally--and have been quite successful. Everyone who knows me continues to tell me how great I would be at this type of a job. Everyone refers to me as the party planner and looks to me when we want to plan things... my mind just works differently than most others.
I have an eye for detail, I am super organized, and I LOVE to plan things. I have planned parties for up to 200 people and it has been quite successful with rave reviews afterwards.
I really know this is my calling in life...here is the problem: I don"t have the experience on my resume to get a job in this field.
I have thought about trying to do this on my own and start my own business, but I am scared. I don"t know how I would do it--I don"t have much for savings. I mean, if I quit my other job and was only working my own business and it didn"t work, I am unemployed... with no savings. I know that I probably just need to take the leap, but I don"t know that I would have enough contacts/business to keep myself busy. And, I know I could start small and just work part time keeping my current job until it actually takes off...
I almost want to get the experience working under someone else, though, but I am having trouble finding the opportunities. Do you have any hints, tips, etc about what I can do? I just want someone to give me a chance so I can prove to them how great I would be at the job.

Thanks in advance for your help!

How to get career guidance

Dear Jeroen,
Greetings of the day!!
To start let me tell you about my work experience.
I have work experience in different fields as in i have worked for two years with educational institute as center manager wherein i handeled administration of the institute along with that my role was to give career counseling to students for studying at world's best B schools and then along with these responsibilities i had to sell programmes which are conducted to prepare for getting addmission at B' school.
THEN i joined another industry which is Information Technology where i did operations job in Sales team here i worked for three years .
and after these five years i i joined insurance company where i was doing direct sales where after working for 4-5 months i realised that i do not like the work culture of the industry ,i found the workculture very immature and left the company.
Now after working for these years in different fields iam again in search of job and while surfing net i came to know about you and i could see the way you have answered people and guided them.
so here i go with the question....Can you suggest me the answers for next job interview that i am assuming would be asked ...1)why i shifted from Information technology to insurance and why i left so early .?

would be very kind of you if you could help me know the convincing answer for the interviewer to take me to my desired role which could be role of Business development manager in reputed Multinational company.or another option of role which i would want to do is role of business analyst in reputed Multinational company.

Thanks and regards.

Jobs in pakistan and the salaries people get depends on many different factors. The IT job market in pakistan is not efficient, which means employees and employers can get away with just about anything. Normally supply and demand determines the direction of the labor market and in Pakistan in certain markets like Islamabad an unrealistic salary graph has been created.
If you scan the IT jobs on different sites in Pakistan you will see the data that is as wide as the corrupted politician’s bank account. Salaries are ranging from 15k to 80k and the required experience is not substantially different. The fastest way to get a salary increase is to work with few of the well established companies and within a year or two your starting salary will be doubled. Furthermore when a new company enters the market, they tend to pick employees from companies who have a good brand in the market. These new companies will offer in some cases 100% markup to pooch employees.
Salary increase in Islamabad or some other parts of Pakistan compared to a western country clearly shows the shift in labor market. It won’t be long before people from the west start to move towards the developing countries. India is already seeing a large influx of talent and as and when the security situation improves; Pakistan will see a similar trend. For example if you take an employee’s starting salary in Islamabad and compare the two years increase; it is hard to understand how in most cases it has doubled; Yet employees still expect an increase at the same level. When the employer tries to put an end to unrealistic pay hikes; employee simply finds another company.
Some companies hire employees and keep them at a pay they can afford; they understand the exact output from the employee and simply do not care when employee leaves. A new recruit is hired way in advance to make sure they are not left on a cliffhanger.
To keep this post short, here are some tips for employers:
Make sure you are fair to your employees and pay them accordingly
Make sure you have ample resources in all critical departments
Never be held hostage to unrealistic demands from employees (in most cases these demands will surfs when you have more urgent matters at hand)
Another post will follow which will be geared toward employees, which will include tips for the employees to handle salary hikes in the most professional and mutually beneficial way.

Canadian Medical fields and Career List

I want to be a doctor when I get older.

two problems.
The first being my difficult boss. He's abrasive, condescending, rude, and
totally unapproachable. I'm pretty sure everyone in the office finds him
intimidating. The other day, he got loud with me because I responded to
what I thought was a rhetorical question with a question. The other day, he
completely berated me (I'll get to why later) and I ended up in the bathroom
crying. I want to put him in his place and tell him not to talk to me that way
but at the same time, I want a recommendation letter at the end of my
internship. I also don't want to get fired. How do I approach him about his
attitude?

My second problem is my supervisor/co-worker. That, in itself is a big part
of the problem. I'm not exactly sure what she is or her relationship to me
professionally speaking. Mostly, I report to her and then she reports to our
boss. That's why I thought it was ok to do what she asked me to do, which is
also what our boss berated me for doing. She asked me to give our boss
some kind of excuse whenever she's late to work and cover up for her. I
really pride myself on being an honest person and when she asked me to do
it, it made me really uncomfortable. But I figured that since I work under her,
if anyone gets in trouble for being dishonest, it would be her for giving me
that order-not me for abiding by it. So I did it. Then, I got caught and our
boss screamed at me and gave me a lecture on honesty. I never told my boss
that she put me up to it thinking that she would come to my aid and say that
she gave me that order. But she never did and allowed me to take the blame.

This sort of thing has happened on several occasions and I would avoid
listening to her altogether except when I do that, I get in trouble with her.
She bosses me around like she's my supervisor but when something goes
wrong and our boss yells at me, she just says, "don't worry. It'll all blow over,"
and takes no responsibility w/ our boss. So my question to you is this:
Should I just go ahead and tell my boss that this woman is the source of
everything I've been doing wrong or should I just use my own judgment
when it comes to things, even if it means pissing her off and causing a bad
relationship btw us?

Also, my boss isn't coming in for the next few days, and this same co-
worker/supervisor told me that if anyone asks where our boss is, LIE. Is this
not deja vu?

ANSWER: Pat --

Wow. Sounds like a pretty horrible situation.

First, you need to get clear what your work relationship is with this other woman. You're going to need to meet with your boss -- informally might be best, rather than right in his office. Tell him you're enjoying your internship, learning a lot and you're very grateful for the opportunity. Then say you're a little confused about the chain of command, and you need some clarification. Say that this woman sometimes give you direction on things and it conflicts with things the boss has told you, and when that happens you're unsure of who to listen to. You can also say to him that, sometimes, when he gets very frustrated with you he speaks rather loudly and it makes you very nervous. Tell him you always want to know when you're made an error in your work, but you find it difficult to concentrate when people get very loud and confrontational.

Second, you need to stand up to this woman and, politely, tell you that you're not going to cover for her when she disappears. Tell her in the future that, if the boss asks where she is, you're going to say, "I'm not sure, but she called in a while ago" and leave it at that.

And as far as lying about your boss' whereabouts, you don't need to lie to people. If anyone asks where the boss is, say, "I'm not sure, but I think Helen knows" and put it on her.

It's clear to me that this woman is never going to stand behind anything she tells you to do that isn't on the up-and-up, so don't give her the opportunity. If it comes down to either you or her, say to your boss, "I'm so sorry. I was just following what Helen told me to do. If this happens again, how do you want me to respond?"

Some bosses are yellers, but you shouldn't have to put up with being treated like dirt. Stay professional; stay calm; don't let yourself be drawn into their drama.

One book I recommend a lot to people is Shaun Belding's "Winning With the Boss From Hell". It's excellent, and should give you some insight into dealing with many different kinds of difficult bosses.

QUESTION: Thank you so much for your advice. However, I'm afraid that I still have a problem. I just had a talk with this woman and she clarified that she is, indeed, my supervisor. However, when I brought up the incident where I got in trouble on her behalf, she said, "don't worry about it. He's over it. It's really not a big deal. He's not angry with you, that's just how he talks to people." I told her that I already know how he comes off but that's not why I'm upset at the moment. I'm upset because he still thinks poorly of my character and she's not doing anything to change that, especially since SHE'S the reason he thinks this way of me. After I said that, she responded that that same day, our boss asked her how I was doing as far as my work and she said that I'm doing an excellent job. I'm appreciative of that, but she's still not owning up to the mistakes she's causing me to make! And who's to say if she really told him that or not? She could've just made that up to get me off her back and to make it seem as though she's looking out for me so my getting in trouble for her is not being done in vain.

If I tell my boss that this woman is behind my screw-ups and I get her in trouble, she may spite me by giving our boss negative reports about me and my work, resulting in a bad recommendation at the end of my internship. If I keep covering for her and taking blame for her mistakes, my boss may end up giving me a bad recommendation anyway. So there you have it-the quintessential catch 22. What's a frustrated intern to do?

Should I tell my boss that I am quitting the job ?

QUESTION: My boss belongs to a professional org, I do not. My bosses, boss arranged for me to attend a convention with my boss. I rode to and from the convention with my boss. At the convention, I was alone, my boss was with her colleagues. I was not introduced to her colleagues. We ate lunch in the same ballroom, I sat with strangers, she sat at the table next to me . I ate my meals in my room, while she was with her colleagues. This went on for 3 days. I feel very disrespected and I don't know what to do. I am the asst cord 2nd in command to the boss, we do have a communication problem. I have worked with her for 8 yrs. I think I was sent with her as a plan to have us bond. I have put up with yrs of screaming, pounding fists on the desk rudeness and just plain meanness. I am afraid to say anything, because the last person that said something was moved to another dept. I have worked here for 12 yrs and don't want to change now, as I am 5 yrs from retirement. I also do not want to be perceived as a trouble maker.

ANSWER: Linda --

I'm not really sure what your question is here, so I'm just going to address a couple of your statements.

I can't explain what happened at the convention, except that your boss was working her agenda and you were free to do the same. Instead of networking and meeting people on your own, though, you choose to eat in your room and didn't make the most of the opportunity you were given. You're a professional person, not a grade-schooler, and your boss really isn't responsible for you having a productive time at a convention.

If you've worked with this woman for 8 years and have put up with screaming and tyrannical behavior for that length of time, you've trained her that it's acceptable to treat you this way. You say you're afraid you'll be moved to another department; but if you're so unhappy where you are, and are so badly treated, why would that be a bad thing?

You need to decide that you're not going to let your boss' temper affect you. She isn't going to change. If you have a "communication problem", then you need to figure out what she wants and give it to her the best way you know how. A communication problem is never about one person -- everyone involved has a part in it, so look at what you're doing to contribute to the problem and do something different. It can't be any worse than what you're putting up with now.

Every time we have a staffing issue, the scheduler tells me he needs my answer ASAP. Recently, a couple was forced out of our group (in my opinion)because they wouldn't accept 1.5 positions instead of 2 full time positions. After our scheduler told me about the couple, he informed me that my request to cut back to 0.8 was not possible and in fact, there would be additional hours for everyone (we are salaried). He wanted to know on the spot if that was a situation I could live with or if I intended to look for another job. I told him I would do my best to be optimistic although a 0.8 position was really what I had hoped for.

Now a friend of the scheduler is looking for a job, and he has asked me to consider going to 0.5 time with minimal benefits.I can't afford to do this but I am not a partner, so I suppose they can force me out too.

As a woman, I would like to sound knowledgeable and reasonable; instead I feel like I'm getting pushed around.

Any suggestions?

This question is regarding my fiance's coworkers. The other day I called his cell phone around lunchtime and a woman picked up the phone. I asked who it was and she said my name and I asked if he was there and she said, "I don't know, is he?" I was silent and then I heard her and another woman laughing. She said her name and told me that she would have him call me back.
He called me back minutes later and told me that it was one of his bosses and another coworker who picked up the phone. In addition to taking the liberty of answering his personal, non-business, phone, they also decided to read through all of his text messages. They then proceeded to "tease" him about some of the text messages they had read.
He works at a bank and these are adults we are talking about. The phone was in their equivalent of a "break room with the rest of his personal items. It was not out in the workplace nor was it distracting him from doing his job.
Am I completely out of line in thinking that this was, not only, an immature thing to do, but an obvious invasion of his privacy?
Thank you for your help and I appreciate your feedback.

ANSWER: Hi Whitney.

I don't think you are over-reacting at all. The act was immature and it was an invasion of privacy. Granted, these women were having fun and felt it was harmless, but that doesn't excuse the behavior.

In this situation, the onus is now on your fiance to establish some boundaries with his coworkers between his personal and professional life. He doesn't have to go overboard, but the cell phone is a great example here of personal property where a boundary should exist. It may be fun now to play with coworker's cell phones and tease each other about personal information, but should a work relationship go astray, all that personal information that was once freely exchanged can backfire and be used for hurtful and detrimental reasons. I'm not trying to be an alarmist, but your fiance is better off not even putting himself at risk. There are many ways to have fun at work and connect with colleagues without having to cross that personal line.

Thanks again.

employer and employee rights and obligations

employer and employee rights and obligations

What to do after btech in IT - M.Tech or MBA

Although I am more interested in doing M.Tech..Still I want to know what are the future prospects after these degrees, and when and how to start preparation for these??

how do i prepare to live on my own

i'm gonna be 18 and i can't live in this house any more it's destroying me i have to move out and find a way to make money for everything college bills everything i don't want to be here any more i want to get out i'm trying to go to a art shcool that is really expensive but i can look at other colleges i just need to be something more than my mother she stayed at home tilll she was in her 30's got knocked up and raisied me alone and bitter i'm choking here i want to be stable and happy she wasn't around and i'm clueless on how to live adult life i have no one to guide plz help

Information about employment relocation

QUESTION: My husband and myself are from NYC, but have lived in Florida for 18 years. We owe a successful Mortgage Company for several years (even now with the market the way it is). We are talked about moving to Atlanta, Ga, to retire there in years to come. Prior to owning the business, I have been the Director of Admissions, as well as Director of outbound and inbound call centers. We are looking to relocate to Ga. And need assistance in securing jobs. ANSWER: Helene-

Thanks for your question. A pre-welcome to Atlanta!

Most good recruiters have a specialty - mine is accounting.
Start with a google search for "mortgage jobs in Atlanta" or "call center recruiter in Atlanta" and
contact some of the recruiters on the results list.

We also keep a variety of helpful job search links on our site at http://employmentatlanta.com/#resume

Good luck!

I have been living with him for almost exactly 2 years (I am 20 as is he) and we have had few major problems and any arguments we have had have always been resolved. We love eachother very much and have professed a desire to be together forever. We are very commited and share everything (finances, food, EVERYTHING). My problem is that, as a girl coming from a very christian (LDS) family, my parents are starting to get impatient about when a ring is going to appear on my finger at the VERY LEAST. I have to admit I am wondering if I am letting him "have the milk for free" as it were by livng with him out of wedlock. We do not share a room but are very close.

When I bring up marriage he says he's not ready yet emotionally and will be one day. He says he does want to get married some day but that he doesn't want to be pushed into it.

I've been lied to and run around before in relationships, so I'm not always that trusting. I am also afraid that if he decides he does not want to marry me I will have a LOT of emotion invested in a relationship that went nowhere!

Due to financial issues we have been forced to downsize to a 1 bedroom apartment and we are still not going to share a bed but this new development really intensifies my need for security and commitment in my relationship.

Please tell me how I can find out if he will EVER be ready for marriage or if I am just wasting my time with a guy who loves me but will never commit to me?

Thank you.

why the object of the lessons are important?

Hi there

I'm a junior and in AP calc BC. Next year im thinking to take ap stat since there isn't any math class left. But i've heard ap statistics requires a lot of reading, which i suck at.

The things im good and bad at:

Good: math, calculations, calculators, graphs, remembering formulas, and stuff like that. math ACT score 31
Bad: Vocabulary. Reading, i read slow and/or have to read 2-3 times. reading ACT score 18.

So, i truly need your advise, guys. i dont have to take a math class, but if ap stat doesnt require a lot of reading, i should give it a try.

your opinions on ap statistics please..

Thanks.

Are my GCSE results good enough to get into oxford or cambridge?

In my GCSE results I got-

Things have changed and so has the way to find a job; now days to find a good job you need to make sure you are found where people are looking for the candidates.

Simply submitting resumes to employment agency won't cut it. you need to make sure your brand exists on top social networks and your work also is easily visible for employers to look at. some times it would be your expertise employers will find you through but others time they will see your work somewhere on the net and would hire you based on it. Then there are the social job search.

A proliferation of new social networking and database technologies is transforming the way people look for work. As importantly, technology has changed the way companies and recruiters must now engage in seeking out and recruiting passive candidates. And a new generation
of independent, transient and globalized workers in the burgeoning knowledge economy is creating new rules around hiring and engagement.

Then, as McKinsey warned us at the Turn of the Century, there’s been an ugly demographic shift—and the traditional supply/demand equation has been irreversibly turned upside down.

Want to become LIC Agent in Mumbai...?
