Professor Nigel Dimmock, a virologist at the University of Warwick said: "This is the trouble with going into hospitals, where you can get MRSA, C.diff, Norovirus and so on. You go in with something and you come out with a virus, it's a well known problem."

Three of the five people on a unit for severe underlying health conditions at the University Hospital of Wales, in Cardiff, appear to have acquired the infection on the ward, the NPHS said.

Two of the five have recovered and have been discharged from hospital, one is in critical care and two are being treated on the ward.

Professor Dimmock said the likelihood of the cases in Cardiff causing an outbreak of the resistant strain depend on how well the virus has been contained.

Tamiflu-resistant swine flu

Tamiflu-resistant swine flu. Yes just when you think this swine flu thing is about to go away; it pops right up again. Tamiflu-resistant swine flu which has broken out in Wales will become much more common as the virus mutates, a flu expert said.

Three out of five patients diagnosed with the Tamiflu-resistant strain remain in hospital, after it was revealed they could be the world's first cases of person-to-person transmission of the virus, the National Public Health Service for Wales (NPHS) said.

Professor Nigel Dimmock, a virologist at the University of Warwick said: "This is just the beginning. You have got a lot of viruses and if you use Tamiflu at the level they are using it you get resistance.

"However, they probably aren't resistant to Relenza, the other antiviral. You need other mutations to make it resistant to Relenza.

"Also, the vaccine is coming on so people regard Tamiflu as a stop gap and there's no need to panic."

Ukrainian super flu

Scientists are trying to figure out whether the Ukrainian "super flu" that has killed nearly 200 people is a mutated form of the swine flu. In most cases, when a person is infected with an influenza virus and recovers, they develop antibodies that provide them with immunity to that particular virus. Therefore, in the case of the H1N1 flu virus, the vaccine will be recommended to everyone, but is not necessary for people who have had a laboratory confirmed H1N1 flu virus infection.

vaccines or flu shots for H1N1 flu virus

vaccines or flu shots for H1N1 flu virus. Influenza vaccines (also called flu shots) help you to prevent getting sick by introducing your body to a weakened or dead version of the virus to teach your body to build immunity to it. This year, there will be vaccines for both types of flu – one for the regular seasonal influenza, and one for the H1N1 flu virus.
Canada has a contract in place with GlaxoSmithKline to produce 50.4 million doses of H1N1 flu virus vaccine. This is enough vaccine for all Canadians who need and want protection.

do pigs fly? 'cause the swine flu.

Treatment for The H1N1 flu virus.

Treatment for The H1N1 flu virus. If you get flu-like symptoms and are pregnant or have underlying health problems contact your healthcare provider. If you get flu-like symptoms and are otherwise healthy, you should stay home to recover. If your symptoms worsen or you experience difficulty breathing or serious shortness of breath, it is important to seek medical attention. Antivirals are drugs used for the early treatment of influenza. If taken shortly after getting sick (within 48 hours), they can reduce influenza symptoms, shorten the length of illness and potentially reduce the serious complications of influenza. Antivirals do not prevent you from getting sick. Canada has a National Antiviral Stockpile of 55 million doses of two antiviral drugs – Tamiflu and Relenza. Both are effective in treating H1N1 flu virus. This stockpile is enough for all Canadians who will need and want treatment.
Antivirals are recommended for the treatment of moderate to severe illness, and for people at risk of severe disease. Your doctor will decide if treatment is right for you.

Symptoms of The H1N1 flu virus

Symptoms of The H1N1 flu virus. affected person has almost always Cough and fever. other common symptoms are Fatigue, Muscle aches, Sore throat, Headache, Decreased appetite, Runny nose and sometimes gets Nausea, Vomitting and Diarrhea

Contagiousness of The H1N1 flu virus.

Contagiousness of The H1N1 flu virus. The H1N1 flu virus is contagious and is spread the same way as regular seasonal influenza. This happens when an infected person coughs or sneezes and their germs enter the nose, eyes, or throat of another person. The germs can also rest on hard surfaces like counters and doorknobs, and can be picked up on hands and transmitted to the respiratory system when someone touches their mouth and/or nose. it is not possible to catch it through blood transfusions.

What is the H1N1 flu virus

What is the H1N1 flu virus. The H1N1 flu virus – also known as human swine influenza – is a respiratory illness that affects the nose, throat and lungs. This virus usually affects pigs, but has been transferred to humans.
The H1N1 flu virus has caused primarily mild illness in Canada, but Canadians need to be prepared to respond to a potentially more severe form of the virus that may emerge this fall.

How to avoid the swine flu?

How to avoid the swine flu? Lots of people are searching for what swine flu is and what they can do to reduce the risk of catching it. You have come to the right place. Here are steps to follow:

 1. When it is going around, wash your hands after getting home from public places. The flu travels by "hitch hiking" a ride on your hands (when you touch surfaces touched by those with the flu) to catch a ride to your mouth or nose. Wash your hands when you get home to send the virus down the drain.
 2. Get your 8 hours of sleep a night and take a good multivitamin to optimize your immune system. Especially important would be the zinc and vitamin C. These not only help strengthen your immune system, but may even determine if the vaccine works (optimal zinc is important for vaccines to work).
 3. If you catch a virus, take a Thymic Protein supplement as early in the infection as you can to jump start your immune defenses. This is good for children or adults, and I recommend keeping some in everyone's medicine cabinet (the earlier in an infection you start it the better).
 4. Another excellent treatment, if begun at the first sign of the flu symptoms (day 1), is a homeopathic remedy called "Oscillococcinum." This can be found not only in health food stores, but even in many supermarkets and drug stores.
 5. Meanwhile, avoid excess stress — like watching over sensationalized news reports. Remember, these are often geared to entertain and sensationalize (which is what sells ads) — not to give an accurate perspective.

Birds with bird flu

Swine Flu Sweden Football team?

The Swedish FA has advised players to stop shaking hands with other players during a football match to avoid the spreading of Swine Flu. The Swine Flu as most of you now already know has been MUCH milder than the usual flu virus that hits the world each winter, which normally kills about 30,000- 50,000 just in america alone.

Swine flue only caused about 1% as many as the normal flu death to date and media is playing the flu card to attract more and more people to buy their papers, listen to their newscasts.

The biggest beneficiary to all this hype are the drug companies who can't seem to keep up with demands. here is what i think:

it is simply a matter of personal preference. Still on the fence? Overall, I think the flu vaccine is a good idea for those with CFS/FMS who frequently get the flu. Unfortunately, just so you know taking the swine flu may lower the effectiveness of the regular flu vaccine (and vice versa), so I would still simply get the regular flu vaccine instead.

swine flu

i have the swine flu i need your help

Egypt slaughters pigs to stop flu

Mexico economy squeezed by swine flu

'Too late' to contain swine flu

Is swine flu 'the big one' or a flu that fizzles?

how to cure flu with herbal remedies?

can anyone suggest some good remedies..?

Second bird flu death in Vietnam

Prevention for The H1N1 flu virus.

Prevention for The H1N1 flu virus.
