I once found a package of diaper wipes under the bed in the basement guest room and when I opened it, there were there, on the wipes. ARGH! I usually see them in the summer. They can jump. When I kill them, I get a black dust-like substance on the tissue. I looked on the net and even on this site and you explain it as a springtail. But these bugs don"t have an antenna as long. The pics of springtails just don"t look like these. Their bodies are about 1/8" long and the antenna curves outward and is really tiny. Please help!? What are they and how do I get rid of them!!!! They look a bit like beetles, but look a bit more like a sowbug underneath (like a similar number of legs) & not very long antenna, and with the strangest single white stripe going horizontally across their backs. I also keep finding these other smaller bugs, could be a young version of what I have mentioned above. They are very small, but appear to look a bit like very tiny millipedes but with fewer and well hidden legs (kind of tucked underneath the body) and more chubby segments with defined ridges inbetween. I have vacuumed the floor but found one dead the day after. They probably have something to do with the stuffy atmosphere in my room, because I also use the room to do body building and regularly get very sweaty. One of my females regularly started attacks on some of the weaker dogs and most of the others would join in to the frenzy. I was always able to stop it. A week ago, I was gone from home for 1 1/2 hrs when one of my chis was killed by the others. I knew who had started the attack and found blood on the ones that participated. I immediately placed the Alpha female and felt that all would be fine. Today I was gone for 1 hour and her sister was killed by the other dogs. There are 3 that I believe are responsible. I have never heard of this happening??? I am truly heartbroken and at a loss. I don't know if they are getting browner or not, but I am noticing/worrying more.  They are not crusty or infected.  They look just like his other scales, but are brown. We took him to a vet last week, for a check-up, and the vet said his color was beautiful.  But I'm paranoid enough to wonder, knowing this vet is not a herp specialist. Our iguana eats and poops every day. I don't notice that he drinks, though we have a fairly large bowl of fresh water in his cage. He seems to enjoy being handled and has a good level of activity.  He does not act sick in any way. What do you think? Thanks! Now the female is flawless and the male has started making bold mistakes with urination. He always makes it to his box for number 2, but number 1 is about 50% on a bad day and 75% - 90% on a good day. We are giving him subQ fluids every 12 hours. PeptoBismol 1ml., Amoxilin .5ml, and Metronidaz .5ml every 8 hours. 1/4 of a 10gram Prisolec pill crushed on his Ferretvite, once a day. We sirynge feed him  about  12ml of his ferret food, made into soup every three hours, and 6 to 9 ml of Pedyalite every three hours. We did this until he went back to his dry kibbles. Today, nine days after starting him on medicine, and seeing him back to life and VERY active, and playing with us like never before, he started vomiting again. At first, during the day, nothing came out. But now at night, a little water did come out. We are very lost now. The vet we go to, doesn't seem to know or care very much about ferrets. Unfortunately, we've spent everything we could have. She did x-rays, and didn't see any intestinal blockage. Our house is very ferret proof. He had even managed to gain some weight back. At least it looked that way. I going to start him on sirynge feeding again, because I don't think an empty tummy goes well with an ulcer. I gave him 9ml of Pedyalite after he vomited, and some Ferretvite and someLaxatone. Please help us. You are the only one my wife and I can go to for help right now. At this point, I believe that they most likely are the larvae of a fly (if they lack legs of any sort), or possibly a small beetle (if they have legs). They don't seem to cluster up or move in large groups, but every time I wipe them with a towel and flush them, more come back to the same place. They seem to like my sink, the top of my toilet, and almost every part of my shower. I've sprayed all sorts of cleaning chemicals around these areas and they just keep coming back. I'm going to try some different bug sprays today, but I would really like to know just what they are in case this happens again. Like I said, they are the size of a pinhead or a period. They seem to be brown with a red tint. From what I can tell they have about (I would guess, due to the size) six legs. They may have antenna, it's hard to tell if that's what those are in the front or if they're just more legs. They move at a moderate rate. Not fast, but not slow. About as fast as an ant. They're clingy, so if they find something they like (skin or a towel, or really anything but tiles), they can be hard to get off. They don't group in masses or mounds, but do like to hang out in the same places. Typically each spot will have about 20-30 of these things, depending on how long it's been since I've wiped them up. It's been about five days now since I first noticed these things. I don't have any photos as of yet, nor do I have anyway of looking at this closer than I have. I hope my information isn't too vague. They are all male, neutered, and declawed. One of them has always had problem with the litter box and urinating. We have three boxes, always cleaned every day. He will often use the box, but the other day he actually stood on my kitchen table on a plastic bag and peed all over it! I have the living and dining rooms blocked off because he will pee on the carpeting which is new..replaced because of him. I have tried every gadget out there and all home remedies such as mats, tape, balloons, etc. I am at my wits end! ANSWER: Ellen, That IS a frustrating problem. House soiling is the most common behaviour problem reported by cat owners and is a major cause for cats to be abandoned or undergo euthanasia. Has he been checked for a urinary tract or kidney infection, urinary stones, colitis, diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, kidney or liver disease, including a previous injury to the kidney area, or from something inherited? When a cat pees in front of you that is usually a sign of a medical problem. If he has pain from something being wrong when he urinates in the litterbox he may go elsewhere because he would associate that pain with the litterbox. One of the most common feline responses to stress is inappropriate elimination. The bladder is the catÂ’s stress target. People are often surprised to learn that these acts performed by a cat are designed to help them calm down. If it is not a medical issue, a cat can quit using the litterbox when they are upset at you or stressed over something in or around the home. Sometimes you have to be a dectective to figure out why. Have there been any changes in the home? Pets that visit? Have you left him alone for a couple of days? Not giving him the same amount of attention? If there are stray cats in his territory that he can see out the window but can't get to that will cause that behavior because he is 'marking his territory'. Blocking the window usually cures the problem. Sometimes too, cats don't like where their litterbox is located. They like privacy. They also may decide they don't like the litter you are using or the litterbox becomes too small for their liking. Try getting some children play sand from Home Depot or a buiding supply store and see if he prefers that and a bigger litterbox with deeper litter in it. That will tell you if it is a litterbox problem. In addition, using litter boxes with lower sides and placing the litter box in the area in which the cat spends the most time may be helpful. There is a very popular cat calming spray and plug-in you can use called Feliway. It is available at pet stores or on-line. It copies relaxing pheromones that cats produce from rubbing their faces on things. There is also a calming product that you can add to your cat's food or water that reduces anxiety called Bach's Rescue Remedy. It is available on-line and in health food stores. Gently mix all ingredients in a non-metal container. Do not mix or shake vigorously! The mixture is best used when fresh but can be stored. Do not keep mixture in an airtight container as baking soda and hydrogen peroxide when mixed together release loads of oxygen. We don't want an explosion on our hands on top of the mess we already have! You can mix and keep it in large spray bottle (Home Depot, etc.) but on old plastic liter soda bottle works just a well. Just remember to keep the cap on loose. HOW TO REMOVE CAT URINE ODOR FROM CARPETS FOR INDIVIDUAL URINE SPOTS ON CARPET: If fresh, sop up as much cat urine as you can with a paper towel first. Use a spray bottle to saturate the spot completely with the recipe - do not blot. The recipe must penerate the padding and possibly the floor boards underneath, where the urine has penerated for it to work. Wait 24-48 hours until dry then vacuum. If the urine odor is still present - repeat the procedure. It usually takes 2-3 applications to completely neutralize the cat urine odor. FOR LARGE AREAS OF CARPET: You can use a carpet cleaning machine  using the recipe instead of the shampoo. You will need to make several gallons of the recipe depending on the size of the carpet. Don't use the vacuum part of the machine - you will want to let the solution soak and dry for 24-48 hours before vacuuming. Most carpet cleaning machines are not made for this use and baking soda can clog the nozzles of the machine. A 1 gallon garden bug sprayer (Home Dept., etc.)  works great too.  Rinse the nozzle out frequently by filling the tank with hot water and spraying it in the  bathtub. If using the sprayer, saturate the entire carpet with the recipe, let dry for about 24-48 hours, and vacuum. You will have to probably repeat the procedure again. Areas heavily saturated with old urine may take 3 applications over a week. If the cat urine is old and dried, the smell will probably be worse a day or two later. This is because you are rehydrating the uric acid crystals in the urine to neutralize them. The smell will get better with each application! MATTRESSES: You must saturate the spot throughly to get deep down into the padding and springs to neutralize the urine. If the cat has urinated alot in one spot, the mattress can be soiled all the way to the other side! Let the area dry for 24-48 hours without bedding then reapply if necessary. SOFAS: The same directions as above  but always check for color-fastness in a hidden area before using. Cotton is used in alot of upholstery fabrics and is easily bleached. If your sofa pillow cushion covers can be unzipped and taken off (must be color-fast and washable) you can put them in the washing machine using the instructions for clothing and bedding. CLOTHING, COMFORTERS, AND BEDDING: Put the items in the washing machine and pour in enough of the recipe to cover throughly. This might take a few gallons depending on the size of the load. Soak for at least 24 hours. Rinse and rewash using normal washing detergent. If any of the odor is still present, soak again for 24 hours, rinse and rewash. A small area on a comforter can be spot treated by saturating the area throughly, letting it dry for 24 hours, then washing the comforter normally in the washer with detergent. Always check for color-fastness before using. AREA RUGS: They can be spot treated with a sprayer or put in the washer. Test for color-fastness before treatment. HARDWOOD FLOORS: When cat urine seeps into wood flooring it causes the fibrous cells in wood to swell and warp ruining the flooring planks. The only way to fix this is by replacing the wood. You can treat the wood with the cat urine remover recipe but wood is preamable and it could make the wood swell further, causing further damage. HARD SURFACES: Spray or mop the area soiled with the cat urine. Saturate it completely and let the area dry for 2-3 days. I hope this information helps and gives you a direction to follow up on. He does have bad teeth and has them cleaned once a year. I always have blood tests done at that time. Which leads to another concern: he is still eating his feces!  I had caught him doing it when he was on the wet food also, but not as often.  Now if I turn my back on him for just a few minutes, he will defecate and immediately start eating his feces.  I try to keep a close watch on him and keep his potty area clean, but I am away from home for at least 4 hours a day.  I came home early today and caught him in the act and scolded him. I don't see any signs of comedomes, nor does an ultraviolet inspection reveal any sign of fungus. My vet simply recommended spraying cortisone solution on the patches, but I don't see any relief. I did notice that the patches started developing after a cyst broke open at the end of his tail, and I THOUGHT I noticed some improvement when I administered a short course (2 weeks) of Keflex for an unrelated condition. Most of the patches seem to develop on his underside (belly and chest) as well as areas around his tail on the rump. Any help would be appreciated, as the poor fellow seems to be quite miserable a lot of the time.
