In the fishes a two lobed balloon-like organ is present which is called as swim bladder. This organ is present at the top of the abdominal cavity and it is responsible to control the position of goldfish in the water. Most of the time goldfishes face problems in the water due to their specific body shape or some swim bladder’s disease, for instance if the goldfish flip upside down, it is unable to right themselves. Some may do head or tail stands while others may be stuck on the bottom of the tank. Such issues in goldfishes which are created due to the swim bladder disease, they are called as flipover. There are two categories of the reasons that created the Buoyancy problems, one is temporary reasons that create buoyancy issues and these are related to food, gas or infection while the permanent buoyancy issues are due to malformed swim bladder, compression of the swim bladder, or damage mechanisms for controlling gas pressure in the swim bladder. In many cases a cyst is developed in the abdominal cavity, which creates the buoyancy issues goldfish. For the treatment you can check water parameter because high level of nitrate can cause flipping and stop feeding the offending commercial food by switching to the fresh food. You can add medicated food that contains metronidazole for 7-10 days.
