    Unlike BMW 1 series predecessor, the new vehicle is made on its own platform (E87) although, it has several similar features with the E90 3 Series. Shared components include MacPherson struts in the front of the car and a trapezoidal-link rear axle. BMW has declared that it shares over 60% of characteristics with the present E90 BMW 3 Series.
