I have my question regarding the republic of Ireland. It seems that Ireland happens to be a peaceful nation, though they have certain rivalry with the British. Nevertheless, I would like to know that if Ireland has an army or not?

Ireland is the third-largest island in Europe and the twentieth-largest island in the world. The Irish culture has had a significant influence on other cultures, particularly in the fields of literature and, to a lesser degree, science and education. Ireland has a small army. It is particularly well respected for taking part in peacekeeping missions around the world. The Irish Army comprises of 8,500 men and women divided into three infantry Brigades. Since joining the United Nations in 1955, the Irish Army has been deployed on many peacekeeping missions. The first of these missions took place in 1958, when a small number of observers were sent to Lebanon. A total of 86 Irish soldiers have died in the service of the United Nations since 1960. Besides peacekeeping, the Irish Army has had a continuous presence in maintaining its primary roles of defending the State and internal security within the State. The Irish Army also participates in the European Union Battle groups. The Air Corps and Naval Service support the Army in carrying out its roles. All enlisted members of the Permanent Defence Forces (PDF) undergo 16 weeks recruit training, after which they become a 2 Star Private, followed by a further 12 weeks of advanced training, after which they pass-out as a 3 Star Private, Trooper or Gunner depending on their respective Corps.
