Question:

Do black snakes keep poisonous snakes away?

I recently moved on a farm. I've gotten use to seeing black snakes every time I go outside. My husband and son want let me kill them stating that they keep the bad snakes away. Is this true or do I need to control the snake population?

Well, if you have those black and whitish snakes, they eat almost all other snakes even if the other snakes are a bigger size...

Yes, some black snakes do eat poisonous snakes. An actual example I can talk about without doing research is the Florida King Snake, it's black, not all King Snakes are black. It is called the King Snake because it will feed on other snakes. Its favorite food is Rattlesnake. It is immune to their venom. You do want to have lots of non-poisonous snakes on your property. Thay eat rats and mice. If you do have lots of snakes, you probably have enough rodents to keep them alive. SNAKE DON'T EAT CROPS, RODENTS DO.

I have never heard of a blacksnake eating another snake, but a close resembling speckled kingsnake will eat poisonous snakes so don't kill the king snaked
