I was recently told my mixed media pictures were very professional and made great decor art. Is decor art not of the quality of fine art? What is the difference between decor art and fine art? I feel a little let down as I work very long and hard on the pictures. I want to be recognized as an artist of quality not a hack. Am I misunderstanding decor? Is decor art good or bad?

Hello I wouldn't get too concerned with this observation regarding your art. It might even be a complement. See the definition below.
Fine art or the fine arts describes an art form developed mainly for aesthetics and/or notion other than functional application. Art is often a synonym for fine art, as engaged in the period "art gallery". Historically, the five larger fine creative pursuits were decorating, sculpture, architecture, melodies and verse, with secondary creative pursuits encompassing drama and dancing. Today, the fine creative pursuits routinely encompass the visual art and performing art forms, such as painting, sculpture, collage/assemblage, installation, calligraphy, music, dance, theatre, architecture, photography, conceptual art, and printmaking. However, in some organizations of discovering or in museums fine art, and often the term fine arts (pl.) as well, are affiliated solely with visual art forms.
Decor art is: A decorative style or scheme, as of a room.
