Clean air and main street?

we just purchased a home but it is on a main street. If we purchase a air filter or air cleaner in the home won't it be ineffective since as soon as we open the door or window, the clean air goes out and the polluted air goes in? Thanks

I think the solution to this problem might be to burn aromatherapy oils to perfume the house & mask the pollution which might come in. You could also ventilate from the rear of your home away from the main street.Best wishes. UK
