The 2011 Chevrolet Colorado is largely unchanged as this compact pickup truck shares its basic design with the GMC Canyon. The body styles offered include Regular-, extended-, and crew-cab. Regulars and extenders have a 6-foot cargo bed, whereas the Crew Cabs have a 5-foot bed. Trim levels, depending on body style, include Work, 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT. All Colorados are facilitated with rear-wheel drive or part-time four-wheel drive that should not be left engaged on dry pavement but has a low-range gear for off-roading. Standard on most models is a 185-horsepower 2.9-liter 4-cylinder engine and standard on 4WD Crew Cabs and voluntary on other Colorados is a 242-horsepower 3.7-liter 5-cylinder engine. A 300-horsepower 5.3-liter V8 is standard on 3LT models and voluntary on most 1LT and 2LT versions. Four-cylinder models are available with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Five-cylinder and V8 versions use the automatic only having maximum towing capacity of 6,000 pounds. The safety features available include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, and curtain-side airbags. Sport and off-road suspensions are offered, depending on trim level. A wireless cell-phone link is newly available.

In case the road runs from pavement to dirt or the storms have come in. The Insta-Trac (available on 4x4 models only) allows shifting from 2WD to 4WD with just the touch of a button. There is also an option for the ultimate off-road Chevrolet Colorado with the legendary Z71 Off-Road Package, available in both 2WD and 4x4 models, giving extra confidence while off-roading.
