Question:

Changing to different size tires in 1989 Honda Accord LX1.

My daughter has a 1989 Honda Accord LX1 Sedan. The car was originally equipped with P195/60-14 tires. A previous owner replaced those with P205/50-15 tires and 15x6 alloy wheels. We would like to purchase new tires but do not want to pay the price for the 50 series tires. We would like to go to a P196/60-15 or a P195/65-15 but the difference in overall diameter is 1 inch and 1.8 inches respectively. How do I determine if I can get away with this? Do you have any idea about this? I am really looking for some expert help over this issue. Can someone give me any good suggestion for this? I would be really glad if you could help me. Thanks in advance for your time.

Hey there; first you have to be aware that changing tire size may change your speedometer reading. Second, the worst case for fitment is fully turned, fully compressed. I am sure you can determine what the clearance is when the steering wheel is fully turned, but you will have to take your best guess as to what adding fully compressed is going to do. But usually there is enough room for this magnitude of change. Before making any decision for a tire change keep the above things in your mind and then choose the best company of tires. Do consult with the tire shop mechanic before replacing the tires. I hope this would help you. Best of luck
