How does one become a Casting Director or Casting Agent? Is there a school for that? I am in my early 40's I used to work in the movie business in the mid 1980's to early 90's. I was an extra, production assistant, craft service person. I miss working on movie sets dearly. I would love to get back into the business somehow. I have a good eye for detail, and always thought I would make a good casting person. Any advice would be appreciated.

According to my knowledge, there is not a specific school to learn about Casting per say. Sure it is a plus if you have some schooling in Communications, Film Production or Acting. The best way really is to start as an assistant in a Casting Agency. After a few years of experience or if you feel ready sooner than that, you can start your own agency. By that time you will have established a good rapport with talents agents and actors. It's like building any business. You then have to advertise your services and look for potential clients. It's a lot of PR and it is quite important to hire the right type of staff to work with you. It's a highly competitive business just like acting for example. With experience, talent and dedication, you can surely succeed. Good luck and happy holidays.
Try to get involved in the processes which are required for better learning, Also what you can do is that you can match the characters to make a sense of direction.
