Canon EOS 20D stopped working after using the new canon EF 100-400m lens

I just received the canon EF 100-400m lens for Christmas. I was using it on my canon EOS 20D and it just shut down. I thought I had a dead battery but even after charging the batery, I couldn't get my camera to start again.
