You can apply for a 20-week Child Benefit extension if your 16 or 17-year-old leaves education or training but registers with your local careers services or the armed forces. The education or training must have counted for Child Benefit and you must apply within 3 months of your child leaving. To qualify, you must have been getting Child Benefit immediately before the extension.
