Yes, but the texture won't be the same as from russet or Yukon gold......

Yes, of course. The texture is a bit different but many people prefer red anyway. I don't know if you kids would eat them smashed, but they are good boiled with the skin on, smash them with a masher, add in some garlic and butter.

of course. As a matter of fact garlic mashed red potatoes were in vogue for a period of time in the 90's. Just be careful not to overcook the potatoes because they can get gummy really easily.

Yes but be careful.

The red potatoes are waxier so they can get gummy. When you mash them do it lightly and do not over mix.

Sure you can. Just like usual, peel, cut up, boil and mash. Often times the smaller ones are a little stouter in flavor and sometimes and take a bit longer to boil (this is why they make good friend potatoes, or good to put in green beans and taters cause they stand up well). Add a little more butter then usual, and boil a bit longer, keep checking them, they will be fine!

Yes, I do it all the time, and I leave the skins on them. Then, I put pieces of bacon, and cheddar cheese in them and serve them with some sour cream on top. YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posh eateries will serve you "smashed" red potatoes that are not even peeled. My kids would freak if I tried that on them, but me and the wife dig it.

Yes you can mash red potatoes - really you can mash any kind of potatoes - even the purple ones - they make a gorgeous lavender creamy mash! I saw it from a caterer recently!
