Can I Be Forced To Take Annual Leave for Bank Holidays?

I've been working for the same company for the past 9 years and the past 3 years, I have had a new role within the company. I work 35 hours in the school holidays with children, for about 11 weeks a year and I get about 36 hours as holiday which, in the past, I have used up every october for the week. Though, last week, I came into work on the tuesday and was told that 7 hours of my annual leave was used up for the bank holiday monday. Previously, I had always had bank holidays as unpaid but this was a surprise to me as i always saved up my annual leave to go on holiday.

Sadly, my work had lost my contract last year and I could not find my copy anywhere since moving house. Though, I remember the contract stating about 36 hours leave but did not mention anything about Bank Holidays. I contacted HR and they told me I could have it unpaid or use up my annual leave but they said it was my choice. When I spoke to my line manager, she told me I did not have no choice.

Can my employer do this and should I take this further?

hope someone can help, many thanks.
