Camping in the state parks stinks now and it is just corporatized. Most of the sites are all gone by memorial day every year and most are camper sites because the offer more of a profit for the parks. There are no good campsites for tent campers and if there are we usaully have to pay the same rates as the campers with more strict rules, and when I say strict rules i don't mean rules that enforce the cleanliness, safety and maintenance of the site rented, I mean stupid rules like charging 3 more dollars for teenages as opposed to children, apparently because the teens are little larger..how foolish and greedy is that? All about the greedy profits. There are also more add on fees for various things such as extra guests, pets and so on but also rules that you cannot bring any of your own wood in so that you have no choice but to purchase their wood. Some places do not even let you have a fire anymore and I have even made reservations at one campsite, Hammonasset where when we got there they gave our site away to someone else and we were stuck in a field site. It doesn't seem fair that just because tent campers do not want to sit in a camper all day and use the internet that we should loose all enjoyment, we pay taxes to use these state parks to.
