Hi

I am a devoted fan of McQueen, but it is rather hard to find interesting or well written books about him nowadays in Austria. I just watched Bullit and my question is what car Steve McQueen was driving during the car chase and is it true he performed all the stunts himself. I really want to know more about his outstanding stunts and the car which was used in the classic stunt. Please help me and let me know if you have any information related to this movie.

Thanks

    Hello

The car in the 1968 movie is a 1967-68 Shelby Fastback. The back seat was removed and a camera was mounted in the back hence the great feel of the chase (12 minutes long) McQueen did some out the close-up shots but the dangerous stuff was driven by his stuntman Bud Ekins (who also did his motorcycle driving in the Great Escape).

In the year 2008 Ford also produced the Mustang Bullit model in accordance with the 40th anniversary of the film Bullit. Even the Bullit nameplate on the steering wheel was placed to honor this outstanding movie that made the Mustang one of the most popular cars of the 1960s and 70s. To give a very classic and a trendy look the green color was also brought back for the anniversary edition.
I hope this helps you. Just to let you know you were my first question.

Please feel free for a follow-up if needed.

    Thanks
