For a long time I have been searching for a film , I think British film, black & white covering the plight of a British commando lost in the desert. One scene shows a man being swallowed by moving sands. They had a Land Rover and climbs a hill back tracking the Land Rover. Finally they are rescued. I am not sure Anthony Qayle was in it. May you help me?

I think you are talking about the movie Ice-Cold in Alex, and it was made in the year 1958, the movie was based on the novel of Christopher Landon. He was a British author. The movie was directed by J.Lee Thompson and starring John Mills, the film also won award in the Berlin International Film Festival. Another version of the similar movie was released in the year 1961 by the name of Desert Attack. It centered around a group of army personnel and nurses attempting a dangerous trek across the North African desert during WW2. The leader of the team, a bit of an alcoholic, dreams of drinking ice cold beer when he reaches Alexandria, hence the title. It starred John Mills, Sylvia Syms and Anthony Quayle. In this movie British base is attacked by German Afrika Korps during the World War 2. The movie cast consists of John Mills , Harry Andrews, Sylvia Syms, As they depart from the South Africa which was then called Afrikaans. The has to cross many obstacles which include minefield and also the difficult and dangerous terrain of Quattara Depression.
