Mathew B. Brady one of the most renowned 19th century American photographers, best known for his portraits of VIPs and his documentation of the American Civil War. He is known as father of photojournalism. Despite being a simple man, Abraham Lincoln liked being photographed. He acknowledged the compelling power of the photograph, and frequented developing photo studios. There are over 120 daugerreotypes, tintypes, ambrotypes, stereographic cards and cartes and visites of Lincoln. His most preferred photographer was Mathew Brady, whose many photos changed the course of the nation. His one famous picture that was taken on February 27th 1860, after Lincoln’s popular Cooper Union speech, the photo of the obscure presidential candidates disperse the notion that hideous Lincoln was unelectable. After three months Lincoln was selected as the GOP presidential candidate. The photograph was widely used during the election campaign, both in the illustrated press and through the popular Currier and Ives prints. Before one month the Election Day, Lincoln received a letter from an eleven-year-old girl “Grace Bedell” from, in which she wrote him to grow a beard because growing a beard would look a great deal better for your face is so thin, and it would make him more famous.
