BMW 528i 98 Coolant Leak. No visible sign of leak in cabin or outside vehicle and no smoke.

   Hi, That tube on the resevoir is the coolant level sensor. That needs to be on there securely or the tank will leak. Make sure you bleed the air out of the cooling system properly or you'll still overheat. 1. remove the cap from the resevoir. 2. remove the plastic phillips head s***w next to the cap. 3 fill the resevoir with 50/50 mix of coolant and water. 4 keep filling, you will start to see bubbles from the area where you removed the phillips head s***w. 5. continue to fill until the air bubbles are gone. 6 reinstall the cap and s***w. 7 start the engine and turn the heat all the way up and turn on the defroster. 8 run the engine until the thermostat opens up-indicated by heat from the vents. 9 continue to run to ensure no overheat-if overheating stop and allow to cool down-if no overheating, just recheck the coolant level after engine is cooled off. remember, that the system is under pressure so if you remove the cap when hot, you risk severe burns.
